Lightning Strike Claims Life in Calinog, Iloilo, Leaves Two Injured

Calinog, Iloilo – In a devastating incident on the afternoon of November 29, 2023, a sudden lightning strike took a heavy toll in Barangay Badu, Calinog, Iloilo.

Charlie Latoza y Leonida, a resident of the area, was declared Dead on Arrival (DOA) at the hospital, while two siblings, Joemar Linghon y Lastimoso and Jerelyn Linghon y Lastimoso, faced injuries as a result of the unforeseen calamity.

The incident unfolded around 5:00 PM when the three sought refuge from a passing rainstorm in a shelter located near the boundary of Barangay Aglibacao, Calinog, and Barangay Cabunlawan, Lambunao.

Without warning, a powerful lightning strike hit the vicinity, impacting the trio inside the shelter.

Joemar Linghon, 25, sustained injuries, particularly affecting his right hand, rendering it immobile. Jerelyn Linghon, 18, was promptly referred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao for further medical attention. The extent of her injuries remains undisclosed.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, transporting the injured to the hospital. However, despite their efforts, Charlie Latoza died due to the effects of the lightning strike.
