Drug Sweep Success: Janiuay Authorities Apprehend Regional Priority Suspect
Janiuay, Iloilo – February 9, 2024 – Authorities in Janiuay, Iloilo, have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal narcotics. This morning, at approximately 7:30 AM, joint forces comprised of Janiuay Municipal Police Station (MPS) and Special Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) led by PCPT ALWIN C SALMON, supported by Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) PDEU/PSOG, PIU, and 603rd company RMFB6, executed an operation resulting in the apprehension of a regional priority target.
The suspect, identified as Leonardo Matta Jr y Moralidad, a 37-year-old resident of Brgy Damo-ong, Janiuay, Iloilo, was taken into custody following a meticulously planned buy-bust operation conducted in the area.
During the operation, undercover officers successfully transacted with the suspect, exchanging one piece of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet believed to contain shabu for buy-bust money totaling PHP 7,100.00.
Items seized during the operation include:
- One piece of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu (buy-bust item).
- Four heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu (possession).
- Buy-bust money amounting to PHP 10,100.00.
- One empty Malboro cigarette pack.
Following the arrest, Leonardo Matta Jr y Moralidad was informed of the charges against him and his rights under the Miranda Doctrine and Anti-Torture Act. An inventory of the seized items was conducted in compliance with Sec 21 of RA 9165, and all confiscated illegal substances will be submitted to Regional Forensic Unit 6 for laboratory examination.
