Ex-Convict Arrested in Drug Bust Operation, Large Amount of Shabu Seized
ILOILO CITY – Gemar Gevero, a 35-year-old resident of Zone 2 Barangay San Juan, Molo, was subjected to a drug buy-bust operation on March 14, 2023, at around 11:00 PM in Zone 15, Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Benitez Jr, the Officer-In-Charge of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), Gevero sold them a plastic of suspected shabu worth 15,000 pesos using the buy-bust money, and five bundles of shabu were recovered from his pocket.
Gevero denies selling illegal drugs, stating that he was merely a user.
Following a search warrant, 36 bundles of shabu were found in the room rented by Gevero, where he lived with his pregnant 25-year-old wife.
The total amount of shabu seized from Gevero qualifies him as a high-value individual and a priority target of the ICPO due to numerous complaints against his illegal activities.
Gevero claims that he only uses shabu and is not involved in its sale. He was imprisoned in 2015 and released in 2022.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Benitez Jr alleges that Gevero is connected to the New Bilibid Prison, where he gets his supply of shabu, and is involved with pushers in Ciudad sang Iloilo.
Furthermore, the house rented by Gevero was previously a drug den that was cleared during the campaign against drugs.
Despite his pregnant wife living with him in their rented house, Gevero will face charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 or Republic Act 9165 and return to prison.
One million four hundred thousand pesos were successfully seized from Gevero, according to reports.
