Man Found Dead, Bound and Gagged with Message on His Back in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – A man’s body was found dead, hogtied with his hands, feet, and head bound with duct tape, along with a message on his back indicating the alleged perpetrator’s identity. The body was discovered by a fisherman at around 5:00 AM on Wednesday in Barangay Linobayan, Tigbauan, Iloilo.

In an interview with Radyo Bistado, Barangay Linobayan’s chief, Rene Taño, stated that a fish vendor had informed him of a suspicious person in the area. Taño then visited the location and found the victim’s body hogtied and covered in duct tape. At around 6:20 AM, Taño contacted the Tigbauan police, who secured the area.

Taño added that he did not recognize the victim and that the body was discovered far from any residential area, about five meters from the road. It was also about a kilometer from their barangay hall and ten kilometers from the police station.

At 2:20 PM, Joemarie Bautista, the landlord of a boarding house in Zone 5, Sto. Niño Norte, Arevalo, confirmed that the victim was Allan Sanchez, 58 years old, and a former tenant. Sanchez had left the boarding house in January 2023 without informing anyone of his whereabouts.

According to Police Captain Mary Jane Panes, the head of the Tigbauan Municipal Police Station, three sachets of shabu, one sachet of marijuana, an electronic weighing scale, and a water pipe were found in Sanchez’s possession. Panes believes that the motive for the killing was likely related to his illegal activities. Sanchez had previously been arrested for theft and was detained in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Ungka and Pototan, but the exact details are still unknown.

A message was also found on Sanchez’s clothing, but Panes has yet to confirm its contents. She also cannot confirm if Sanchez was the subject of a summary execution or an extrajudicial killing. The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) is still investigating the incident.

Residents in the area reportedly heard gunshots on the evening of Wednesday, March 22, 2023, but this has yet to be verified.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Sanchez’s death, and an autopsy examination will be conducted on the body.
