Man gunned down while crossing the street in Calinog
ILOILO CITY – A fatal shooting incident occurred in Barangay Libot, Calinog on the evening of February 20, 2023.
The victim, identified as Nardo Basillo, was crossing the highway in his native village when he was shot by Nerio Castillejo Sr., a 70-year-old resident of the same area.
According to a phone interview with Police Major Dajie Delima, Castillejo approached Basillo and shot him on the head and chest without any apparent reason.
Delima stated that their initial investigation indicates that the two parties had long-standing grudges against each other.
Despite being immediately transported to Calinog District Hospital, Basillo was declared dead on arrival by attending physician.
Police Major Delima added that Castillejo fled the scene following the crime and is currently the subject of a hot pursuit operation.
The incident has shocked the community, and authorities continue their investigation to uncover the motive behind the shooting.
