Massive Fire Engulfs Pototan Poultry Farm, Causing Millions in Damages

ILOILO CITY – A devastating fire broke out at a poultry farm in Barangay Igang, Pototan, Iloilo, on the night of Saturday, April 15, 2023, causing millions of pesos in damages. The farm, owned and operated by 79-year-old Alfredo Panaguiton Sr., was completely destroyed, along with all of the chickens on the property.

According to Fire Officer 01 Jollie Faith Perez Emar, the arson investigator from the Pototan Fire Station, the fire started at around 8:10 PM and quickly spread, consuming the entire 944 square meter property in just ten minutes. The fire also reached the bankhouse where the farm’s caretaker lived.

The fire was so intense that it triggered a second alarm, prompting nearby firetrucks to rush to the scene. The blaze was eventually brought under control at around 11:09 PM, but not before causing an estimated 4,233,185 pesos in damages.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The Pototan Bureau of Fire Protection is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
