Shooting Incident Leaves One Dead and Suspect Arrested in Iloilo City
Iloilo City, September 11, 2023 – In a tragic incident that unfolded on the afternoon of September 10, 2023, a shooting at the CMJ Agri-Venture in the Fishing Port Complex, Brgy. Tanza Baybay, City Proper, Iloilo City, resulted in the death of a company driver and the arrest of a suspect. The incident, fueled by an old grudge, took place at approximately 3:40 PM.
The victim, identified as Darwin Ginarangan, a male in his early 30s and a resident of Escalante, Negros Occidental, was employed as a driver for CMJ Agri-Venture. Tragically, Ginarangan lost his life in the incident. His assailant, a male named John Mark Cabuyao y Pareng, 27 years old and employed as a truck helper at CMJ Agri-Venture, hails from Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City.
According to official reports from the Iloilo City Police Station 1 (ICPS1), the shooting transpired when Ginarangan was walking toward his truck within the CMJ Agri-Venture premises. Cabuyao allegedly approached him from behind and fired two shots from a .40 caliber firearm. The bullets struck Ginarangan in the back portion of his head, leading to his instantaneous death.
Following the fatal shooting, the suspect fled the scene. However, law enforcement authorities swiftly initiated a hot pursuit operation, culminating in Cabuyao’s arrest. Presently, Cabuyao is detained at ICPS1 as the legal process unfolds.
In the wake of the incident, Ginarangan’s lifeless body was transported to Somo Memorial Homes for proper handling. Authorities have cited an old grudge as the motivating factor behind the tragic event.
