Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Seven-Month-Old Baby and One Person in Guimaras
ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A tragic accident in Guimaras has claimed the lives of a seven-month-old baby and another person. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM last Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Barangay Suclaran, San Lorenzo, Guimaras.
According to an interview with Police Captain Andres Somes, the chief of San Lorenzo Municipal Police Station, Radyo Bistado learned that the tricycle driver was Guemel Martir, 25 years old, with his live-in partner, Crizel Ann Gadian, 25 years old, and their seven-month-old son seated in front. Meanwhile, Lizyl Gabasa, 32 years old, and a five-year-old child were riding at the back. All of them are residents of Barangay Cabungahan in the same municipality.
After investigating, Captain Somes revealed that the driver of the single motorcycle, Michael Nono, 34 years old, was returning home with his seven-year-old daughter to Barangay Constancia when the accident happened. Nono was not wearing a helmet, drove recklessly, and swerved from one lane to another. On the other hand, the tricycle was running at a steady pace and in the correct lane.
Captain Somes also mentioned that the opposing vehicle was on the wrong lane, and Nono took the tricycle’s lane due to the influence of alcoholic drinks. This resulted in a collision that hit the seven-month-old baby’s head directly.
Sadly, due to the severity of the injuries, the baby and Nono were rushed to the nearest hospital but were declared dead on arrival. Martir, Gadian, Gabasa, and the two minors suffered minor injuries and continue to receive medical treatment.
