Iloilo City shocked by murder of female masseuse in lodging house
ILOILO CITY – The recent murder of a female masseuse in Iloilo City has shocked the community and raised concerns about sexual assault and violence against women.
According to police reports, Christine Gabayeron, 38, was found dead in a lodging house in Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao, on April 1. Gabayeron, who was originally from Barangay Bahawan Sur, Concepcion, Iloilo, was temporarily residing in Matilde Subdivision, Jaro, and worked at the Serenity Haven Boutique, Salon, and Spa Cafe.
Police say that the suspect visited the spa for a massage and then convinced Gabayeron to accompany him to the lodging house. CCTV footage shows the suspect entering and leaving the lodging house, while Gabayeron’s lifeless body was found inside the room they checked into.
Lieutenant Joebert Amado, the Deputy Station on Operation of the Mandurriao Police Station, said that Gabayeron sustained injuries to her stomach, back, head, and face, indicating that she had been brutally assaulted before she was killed.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern from women’s rights groups and advocates who are calling for justice for Gabayeron and other victims of sexual assault and violence against women.
In response to the incident, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to intensify its campaign against gender-based violence and to work with local governments and civil society organizations to create safer spaces for women.
“The murder of Christine Gabayeron is a tragic reminder of the dangers that women face in our society. We must all work together to end gender-based violence and ensure that women can live and work without fear of harm,” said PNP Chief General Debold Sinas.
The incident has also highlighted the need for greater awareness and education around issues of sexual assault and violence against women, particularly in the workplace.
